Modify/Add UIElement

Hi experts,

since the FormattedTextedit (FTE) UIElement doesn't comply with my requirements, I would like to replace or modify this UIElement.

I just want to use an other editor instead of the FTE or modify/enhance it to add my own functions. What do I need to do to get this achieved?
